20 Play Overseas students crowned National Champions at BUCS Big Wednesday!
The 2022 BUCS Big Wednesday event is officially in the books. Over 1,800 students took part in the annual event, held this year in Nottingham, England. A total of 57 fixtures were played over 24 hours with National Champions being crowned in American Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Basketball and more.
This year, 26 of our students reached Championship and Trophy finals across five different sports. We are incredibly proud of all our students who have represented their university teams this year and have thoroughly enjoyed watching all of their success.

American Football ChampionshipPlay Overseas athletes Matt Albright, Jake Suggett, Jax Crawford and Brian Peavy were victorious in Tuesday’s American Football Championship game. Three interceptions from former Iowa State defensive back Brian Peavy and a last minute touchdown from running back Jax Crawford saw the UWE Bullets crowned 2022 National Champions. |

Women’s Basketball TrophyTeammates Mari Stewart (29pts), Liz Moorman (14pts) and Amari Price (17pts) helped their team to a convincing 84-44 win to lift the 2022 BUCS Women’s Basketball Trophy. Former West Virginia Wesleyan College forward Mari Stewart was also named Finals MVP following her impressive 29 point performance. |

Men’s Lacrosse ChampionshipSix Play Overseas athletes featured in this year’s closely contested men’s Lacrosse Championship game. Durham teammates Matthew Lowery, Clay Welch and Cooper Sloan helped their side to a 10-6 win against Division rivals and fellow Play Overseas athletes, Connor Morrison, Jack Granahan and Sean Edwards. |

Women’s Lacrosse TrophyLacrosse players; Emma Kaplan, Emma Knapp, Isabella Ferraro, Elizabeth Ott, Alexis Bower and Alexandra Wessel were crowned National Trophy Champions. The Play Overseas athletes have been instrumental for their university side this side as they extended their unbeaten record with a convincing victory in the final. |

Women’s Volleyball ChampionshipTwo Play Overseas athletes went head to head in this year’s Women’s Volleyball Championship final as Cal State Fullerton graduate, Felicia Marshall faced up against Lakeland University graduate Megan Goeser. After finishing the regular season 10-0 and winning the Premier North Division, Felicia ended her fantastic U.K. university season by helping her side win the title. |

Men’s Basketball TrophyPlay Overseas athlete Andrew Vickers put on a show in the men’s National Trophy game as the former Whitman College guard helped his side to a hard fought 89-76 win. Following his fantastic individual performance, Andrew was also named Finals MVP. |

Women’s Soccer ChampionshipAmerican University graduate Antonia Williams became a U.K. National Champion on Wednesday after her team recorded a resounding victory. After winning the Women’s Premier North Division earlier this month, the former D1 athlete completed the Double with her university side to round off a hugely successful year overseas. |

Women’s Soccer TrophySoccer player Arryana Daniels helped her team to a 3-1 victory in the National Trophy final. As well as travelling through Europe during her year overseas, the Temple University graduate has been a key member of her university side and ended the season on a high with a National Trophy. |
