Volleyball player Megan Wiggins is about to begin her postgraduate studies in the U.K. where she will also be competing for another season! We caught up with the North Carolina A&T State University graduate before she arrives in the UK to ask for her thoughts on the year ahead. |
Why did you feel that moving to the U.K. for your master’s degree was the right move for you?
I felt like moving to the U.K. for my master’s degree was the right move for me in many ways. Starting with the fact that it is such a great opportunity to be able to continue with school in a study that I am passionate about and also allow me an invaluable life experience to move to another country where I will be able to experience new cultures and ultimately broaden my perspective of the world. In addition to this, I will also be able to continue to play the sport that I love and that pretty much decided it for me!
What are you most looking forward to during your time in the UK?
I think what I am most looking forward to during my time in the UK is to be able to work hard and get another degree to help accelerate a career in what I am passionate about while also being able to travel, explore and meet new people.
How do you hope studying in the UK will help your long term career ambitions?
I have set high ambitions for myself in my long term career goals, and I believe by studying in the UK will give me the opportunity to immerse myself fully in school but also allow me a new perspective and experiences that I might not have had if I didn’t choose to study abroad. The new network of people and projects I will be able to work on only will broaden my reach and skills for my career long term.
How would you describe your experience when working with Play Overseas?
My experience working with Play Overseas has been really great, from the moment I sent my application to them to the very final steps of getting ready to leave in January. In my situation specifically, I reached out in November and was lucky enough to be matched with a great school that had the program I was looking to study. It was a very quick and time-sensitive situation to be able to get to school starting just two months later in January, and Play Overseas made the process smooth and efficient. They have been there every step and haven’t missed a beat! I wouldn’t have had this opportunity without them, and I would recommend them to any athlete that is looking for a great opportunity to study abroad and play the sport you love.
