Goalkeeper Mickey enjoyed a fantastic soccer career at Walsh University, earning All-Conference honors and helping them to their best season in program history.
Mickey contacted Play Overseas during her senior year with the hopes of continuing her impressive soccer career and furthering her education. After working with Mickey throughout the year, we are now proud to announce that she has accepted an offer to study in the UK, where she will continue her athletic career while earning a masters degree in Politics and International Relations.
After recently committing, Mickey spoke to us about her experience working with Play Overseas and what she is most excited about for her year overseas.
Why did you first look into the possibility of playing as a graduate student-athlete in England?
After having the career I had in my undergraduate program I knew my life of playing soccer was no where near over. Getting the opportunity to continue to play was something I could not pass up, especially somewhere as beautiful as Durham. When I heard from Harry for the first time I knew that this was going to be amazing for me. Especially being a political science major, the opportunity to continue both my educational and athletic career abroad is unreal.
What other options did you consider pursuing beyond graduation?
I actually got my invitation to serve in the Peace Corp the exact same day as my final offer from Durham! That was a very very close second choice. I applied for law schools as well and had the option of taking a gap year!
What was your experience like when working with Play Overseas in this process?
Harry was the best!! This process was simply a waiting game and he made it worth it. From helping find teams, contacting coaches, questions about scholarship and really anything he was always there and got back to me so so quickly.
What are you most excited about for your year overseas?
Being able to improve my game on an international basis with international coaches. Playing soccer in the states for my whole life I am so excited to play the game I love across the world. I am also elated to study on the international level, international political theory is a topic that differs where you are in the world and to get an American and European perspective is unbeatable.
